Reflection 3

Based on where technology has come from ten years ago until today, I can only imagine where technology will be in 15 years. I am envisioning 3-D television, video games, and computer projection. I would hope that schools would be equipped with enough technology for each student to have some sort of personal (for school use) computer so education systems can be more "green." Smart boards will have evolved into super smart boards, and learning would become almost totally interactive and engaging. Students would be able to type notes, homework, etc, and I think voice technology may even be the norm. Global communication, collaborating, and social networking will be almost instantaneous.

I would expect standards for technology to evolve with the technology itself. Students are more comfortable using different types of technology, so teachers and parents will have to stay current with technological innovations. I would expect for teachers to be able to design interactive and engaging lessons through technology-computers, etc. Feedback and work would happen a the snap of a finger. With all the wonderful things technology can do, I would expect good teachers to stay current with the technology and fully utilize it in their classrooms. It is hard to pinpoint standards because it will really depend on where technology goes and what is available to schools.

I will plan to keep up with technology by not being set in my ways. I will continue my own education-both formally and informally. If something is going to make my life as an educator easier, than why not keep up with it? Technology is also a great way to keep students motivated- which all teachers should strive for.

Reflection Day 2

My general reflection for today...we were shown many different websites with many different capabilities. I really thought the delicious.com site that tags and keeps bookmarks was helpful, and I added to my collection today. The classroom 2.0 seems helpful as a social networking site, but I did not get a clear idea because my membership has not been approved yet.

I found the screen "cutter" and excel tutorial very helpful. I had not been able to do either applications before, but now I will be able to use screen shots in presentations and use spreadsheets for various reasons. Two sites that I will use in the future are prezi.com and storybird.com to make presentations and storybooks made by students.

My technology situation would be ideal if I had more of it. I would love for each student to have a computer to use on a more regular basis, whether that is a laptop or desktop or tablet computer. I feel like I would be able to integrate more regularly with access for students. I would also like smart boards and more freedom to access sites that have been blocked by administrators. Online grading would also be helpful.

Reflection Day 1

1. Today I learned many new things about technology. The first thing I learned was about the website wordle.com. I really like this website because I think it will give students a visual when introducing topics to see what prior knowledge students have. I also think this website would be helpful for making acrostic poems and students will enjoy manipulating the text styles, colors, and fonts.
I learned a lot about blogs, and how easy it is to create one. I also learned how to upload files to my new blog and make the blog an interactive tool for myself, peers, students, and parents. I also learned how to create a survey with Survey Monkey. I have never created one before due to lack of time and motivation, so it was a good experience to create one that I will be able to use in the beginning of the school year. I will also be able to make surveys for staff purposes in the future.

2. Our school district provides an E-Board that I will be able to link my new blog to. I think the blog will be easier to update and communicate with students and parents at home than a website (even though I have not made a website :) I plan on using my blog to give parents updates periodically...I'm thinking once a week instead of a newsletter. I am leaving my survey on my blog to use as a welcome activity for the start of the year.
